MQTT Broker on Linux
Install, update and uninstall MQTT Broker in one place.
Community Edition runs locally without an account or licence.
Install
Install the broker, with optional Hub
Choose 1 for Broker or 3 for Both. Hub requires a graphical desktop. After installation, open Coreflux Hub from your applications menu without sudo.
Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, Debian 12 and 13 (amd64 and arm64). RHEL, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux and CentOS Stream 8, 9 and 10 (x86_64 and aarch64).
Check that it is running (look for “active (running)”)
Once it is running, connect Hub or your MQTT client to localhost:1883. For another computer, use its address and MQTT port. Use your broker credentials when prompted.
Update
Back up your configuration and saved data before updating. Plan for a brief interruption while the broker restarts.
If you used the Linux installer, run it again and choose 1 for Broker. For a downloaded package, download the latest version and follow the installation steps above.
Run the installer to update MQTT Broker
Uninstall
Back up any data you want to keep before removing the application.
MQTT Broker
For MQTT Broker, stop the service before backing up its configuration in /etc/coreflux and saved state in /var/lib/coreflux.
Stop the broker before backing up
Remove MQTT Broker on Ubuntu or Debian (keeps configuration and saved state)
Optional on Ubuntu or Debian: purge the package to also delete its configuration and saved state in /var/lib/coreflux. Back up those files first.
Permanently remove MQTT Broker configuration and saved state on Ubuntu or Debian
On RHEL-compatible systems, removing the RPM also deletes saved state in /var/lib/coreflux. Back it up before running this command.
Remove MQTT Broker on RHEL, Rocky Linux or AlmaLinux
The installer’s activation file and package repository remain for reinstalling. To also remove the saved activation code and its service override:
Remove the installer’s saved activation code
Uninstalling locally does not remove a broker from Fleet or cancel a licence. Manage those separately in the portal.
